Before I explain how you can access this comprehensive video collection, did many of you stop by the National Mall yesterday for Los Lobos/moe./Flaming Lips? I got there right as moe.'s set was wrapping and eased into the surprisingly thin, and vapid crowd about 100 feet back from centerstage, eagerly awaiting a killer set from psych-rockers The Flaming Lips. What I experienced was fairly mediocre. I've seen this band twice before, albeit both in festival settings AT NIGHT, which made a world of difference. The vibe just seemed pretty lackluster yesterday, and I really am not a fan of the slowed down sing-a-long versions of "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" and "Fight Test." Regardless, I still love this band and will see them many more times, but yesterday's environment did not particularly suit them. David Malitz from PostRock has more on the show here.
This aside, I would like all of you to be aware of Wolf Trap's VodPod collection, which is publicly accessible and allows anyone to view a comprehensive catalogue of videos from 2009 Filene Center artists. If you're considering multiple Wolf Trap ticket purchases, and aren't entirely sure what a few sound like, I've put everything for you in one place so you don't have to do individual Youtube searches. You'll notice a few artists missing from this collection, particularly those on the bill for DooWop, Hippiefest and Regeneration Tour, but that's simply because video for those musicians does not exist.
So start browsing, and get educated on what to expect underneath the stars this summer at Wolf Trap.

I got there as Los Lobos was finishing, they did a fine cover of "Bertha". moe. was in good form, much like their Filene Center show last summer (and did "Tailspin" again). I liked their set better than the FLips.
ReplyDeleteI like the VodPod thing, but wish it could be organized chronologically in order of appearance at the Filene Center.
I found vids for all Regeneration Tour artists:

Upon seeing your comment, it looks like there is a way to arrange them in chron order. And thanks for the Regen Vids.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cool thing. Thanks for putting these together. So do you think Wilco will end up selling out? It seems that even though it hasnt gone on-sale yet the tickets for the pre-sale went really fast.
ReplyDeleteI think it will definitely be a sell out. There's already 1700 tickets sold and it's not even on sale to the general public yet. Wilco belongs at Wolf Trap instead of Merriweather/9:30/D.A.R. It's going to be one of the best shows of the summer.
