If you can convince me in a brief description that one of the bands on our schedule is indeed one of your FAVORITE BANDS of all time, then I will award you with a PAIR OF FRONT ORCHESTRA TICKETS to see your beloved group this summer.
Spill your guts in the comment section, but keep it short and sweet, I'm not looking for a novel, but a short, targeted pitch on why this band deserves the status of "Best Band on Wolf Trap's Summer Schedule."
Oh, and check out Wilco's new album cover on wilcoworld. It's just unbelievably hilarious.
Looking forward to some convincing comments...

Wilco's new album cover is absolutely amazing. I don't know how you could top a camel in a party hat. Hopefully the rest of their new album is as good.
ReplyDeleteBased on blog, you seem to be a big fan of Wilco. I would like to hear what your pitch to get tickets would have been. (I am assuming that you secured your tickets some time ago)
My favorite band of all time is the Indigo Girls. I've seen them at least 10 times, and every concert is amazing and spiritual. With a 20 year career behind them, these 2 women, w/ only their guitars in hand, stand in front of an audience of thousands and still make it special. Their music was made to be performed at a beautiful venue like Wolf Trap. - Liz (musueuliz@gmail.com)
ReplyDeleteI Love Chris Isaak, with songs like "Lie to Me", "Don't Make Me Dream About You", "Another Idea", "Wrong to Love You" What a voice. A must see at Wolf Trap.

"Put on a Happy Face" " I Left my Heart in San Francisco" hits of the one and only Tony Bennett. A truly magical evening at Wolf Trap. -Barb

Great Big Sea is, hand's down, one of my all time favorite concert experiences. As they say, "it's not something you see, it's something you DO!" Their energy onstage is unparalleled and all they want is for the audience to join in the fun. It's like one big party with thousands of friends you haven't met yet. Being at a GBS show is just one of those things that makes me feel alive, and even more importantly, happy that I am. You just can't beat that!
ReplyDeleteTried to post this twice between yesterday with no avail:
ReplyDeleteWilco (is my my favorite band because no other bands albums can signify different points in my life. "Sky Blue Sky" still takes me back to wandering the streets of Istanbul and "Wherever you go, wherever you land." Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of my top albums of all time and the first album I shared with a former significant other who converted to Wilcoism. The best concert I ever attended was Wilco/Flaming Lips NYE 2005 and I still mourn my stolen Wilco concert t-shirt from that night (even though I wore it out). The best movie of the year will be "Ashes of American Flags" if not for the genuineness of the scene in the credits with Jeff Tweedy and his father. That's one touching/interesting relationship between a son and his father). Anyway, it's the micro and macro things that Wilco does that make them my favorite band.

Howdy Graham, fellow Libran! My favorite band coming would have to be The Beach Boys. Been a fan since 1966 "Good Vibrations." Nine years old and been hooked ever since. These guys still put on an amazing show, all the great songs of yesterday. The Wolf Trap is such an awesome place to see them live. Would love to be there up close and personal this year too. You never know the they'll hang up the touring shoes, like me they're not "spring chickens" any longer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for listening!

Without a question, the Great Big Sea Concerts are my very favorite ones to go to! It isn't just the music-while I love their variety of songs and their musical versatility-it's the whole aspect of "being there" that is so wonderful. It's everyone knowing all the words, the whole crowd jumping with their "vertical movement", and the energy that emits from hundreds of people just interacting and having fun!! Most important-you're never alone at a Great Big Sea concert-the next people over are your instant friends, and will be at every concert after that-it's like one big family. I can't wait for them to come to Wolftrap!!

While many of the bands in this summer's concert series are certainly worthy of this distinction, one band rules the roost. Wilco is one of the most important and progressive bands in the world and have been my personal favorite for years. There are bands that are changing music as we know it, and Wilco's innovative blend of alt-country and experimental rock pushes them to the top of the pack for me. Wilco (the album) is mind-bogglingly good and is sure to be one of the best of 2009. If further proof is needed that they're this year's best, just look at how quickly they sold out the Filene Center!
